I just purchased a new sewing machine and would like to donate my old one (which is in fine condition). If I remember correctly there were organizations collecting machines for distribution to areas hit by natural disasters. However, I suspect most of those organizations would rather have funds to purchase machines…if so I may just send it to our local Goodwill unless someone has another suggestion…..

I suppose that shipping is prohibitive, so you might try your local women's shelter - lots of uses there.

I sent a note to a friend on the Mississippi Gulf Coast to see if there might be someone who needed it. She works with the Extension Service there and might know of a need if you are not in a hurry to get rid of it. As the other post mentioned shipping costs might be too high. There is a lot of need and hardship for many people on our coast.
In my area, the local Girl Scout troops were looking for donations of sewing machines. I was thrilled to find out that there's an increasingly active sewing program for the scouts around here. You might contact the scouts where you live, and see if they're sewing.

This evening I heard from my friend with the Extension Service on the Gulf Coast. She knows of three people who lost their machines, notions, etc. and could use the machine if you are still looking for a place for it.
