dress form

gracerw | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

Hello,

I have not sewn for many years.  Now, i am picking up where i left off.  My skills are rusty.  I would like to purchase a dress form to aid with fitting.  I am petite.  It is difficult to find a perfectly fit clothes from a store.  i decided to try sewing.  I still struggle with slopers and unsure which dress form to buy.  I want it to be durable and size of it is close to my body shape.

Thanks

Think about the space and money for a dress form. How much sewing are you going to do? Why not buy a second hand dress form cheaply so you can check out how useful it will be?

I have 2 dress forms, but then I sew alot professionally as well as for myself

      Dress form

I think that buying a used form is a wonderful idea! I just looked on EBay and there are some there. I'm wondering, though, if anyone has any advice on what to look for? Some of them say that they are "adjustable" but what exactly does that mean? Just how adjustable are they? I am very long waisted and routinely add 2-3 inches length to patterns with a defined waistline. Is it possible to customize for this sort of thing?

To those of you who have and have used dress forms: is there anything you'd do differently if you were just buying one now, anything you'd advise us who are looking to look for?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice  any of you can give. This would be a big purchase for me, but it's something I've wanted all my life. If I can lose the weight I put on when I gave up smoking, this will be my reward to myself!

      Thanks, Donna
