Egg – large waist, no hips or bum

momee | Posted in Fitting on

Hello all.

I am making a pants muslin. I adjusted the waist and hips but there is still too much fabric in the front crotch, which hangs down about 2″ below the pubis and there are smile wrinkles in the upper thighs.  Should I shorten the front crotch length or do something else.  Thank you.

You will definitely have to shorten the front crotch, but the question is do you shorten it by taking fabric off the top or adding tissue to your original pattern. Before you cut anything off the top, check the fit in the torso and the legs. Experiment with pulling up only the front and then with pulling up the front and the back. Check what happens if you pull up the side seams too or just curve front or front/back. All these changes can throw off the grain of the fabric and cause lots of other disgusting lines. Good luck. Pants are a bear.

Thanks, Tatsy.  I will try your suggestions and let you know.
