Eliminating shoulder pads

skier | Posted in Fitting on

Hi All

I am trying to eliminate shoulder pads from a blouse and am not sure what adjustments to make to the armhole, sleeve cap etc.  I assume that I have to reduce them both but not sure by how much.  I will probably try working on  a muslin but if any of you know a rule for this I would appreciate it.  I am particularly uncertain about the sleeve cap.  Thanks.

The short version of what you want to accomplish is to check the pattern information and determine what thickness of pads were intended for the blouse then taper the shoulder line from neck to shoulder by 1/2 of that measurement.  Then you will need to adjust the sleeve cap by the same amount.  That should work for you.  I would test in muslin or other fabric similiar to what you will be using.  Good Luck.

Just checked the online magazine index, because I was wondering about this, too.  There's supposed to be an article by Karen Howland in Threads 86 on this.  I'll be checking it when I get home tonight.
