Embossing Velvet

SheKnitsSheSews | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

Hello. A few years ago, Threads had a feature about embossing velvet. I am curious if anyone has ever successfully embossed cotton velveteen. My goal is to make some pretty and washable placemats and a table runner, using velveteen. I’d like to emboss them if possible before they are constructed. Any suggestions or advice? Thanks for your ideas!

if you look at the purrfection.com site, they discuss embossing in detail and say it has to be the rayon type velvet. I've tried it with a couple different velvets and they're correct. My semi-educated guess is that cotton velveteen wouldn't work.

Thank you for the information. I suspected as much, just from results of ironing fabrics as I've sewed, but I thought I'd check!
