Hi. I am new at chat rooms, but thought I would give this a try. I live in Canada and am in the process of researching embroidery machines. I have been looking at the Brother ULT and they have a new much more expensive model. I am just looking for opinions as the which is the best machine for my $$. Is it best to spend 5-7000 on a machine like the Brother or spend money on a machine that I have to have hooked up to a computer for it to work…..I am never owned a machine like this and dont want to spend that kind of money on the wrong one…..thank you.

Shelley it depends on whether you need a general sewing machine as wellor just the embroidery bit. I have been very happy with my choice of a Janome 300e which is an embroidery only machine and my ordinary machine which I use while the embroidery is happening on the other machine . My machine can do everything the others can do but I have to download things onto flash card first which then goes into my machine . This isnt a problem to me and is very easy to do . If you go directly from the computer to the machine you need to have them geographically close so that might be an issue if you havew a PC as distinct from a lap top.
My machine cost 1300 Australian dollars and my every dasy machine 1700 $ so you can see that there is a big saving.
