Embroidery thread for Viking DSE

dbran11312 | Posted in Machine Embroidery on

Hi, I just became the proud owner of a Viking Designer SE a few days ago, and have a question for anyone who owns one.  Has anyone used Madeira Embroidery Rayon thread for embroidery in their Viking DSE?  There are some good deals on that thread, but I don’t want to rush to buy it if the machine does not handle it well.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks/ Debbie

I sell Viking sewing machines and the DSE handles Madeira thread very well.  Just remember if you are having problems with broken threads or that type of thing change the needle or change the direction the thread is sitting on the spindle either from vertical to horizontal or vice versa and always have the thread coming off the spool like a waterfall if it is in the horizontal position or coming off of the right side if it is in the vertical position. And congratulations you have a great machine that will serve you well for a great deal of time.

Thanks for your reply.  I finally placed an order through Allstitch for 100+ spools of Madeira Polyspun embroidery thread.  My dealer told me yesterday that Madeira should be ok with my machine, and that they have all switched from Rayon to Poly Embroidery thread because it doesn't break as much, and because it holds up better.  They have only been in business since October, so it is just their opinion at this point, but I went with it and ordered the Polyspun.  What do you think about Madeira Polyspun vs. Rayon??  Any opinions???

Once again, I appreciate your feedback.

      /Debbie

Hi Debbie--The Madeira thread would work just fine.  I have worked for a Viking dealer for about three years, and know that Madeira is just fine.  Congrads on the purchase of the SE.  I'm green with envy!  I own a Designer 1, and love it.

The best rayon embroidery thread for any brand of embroidery machine is Sulky. Sulky embroidery thread is strong, very color fast and rarely breaks or shreds especially when you use Schmetz embroidery needles. I have used it for eight years and have found it to be the best over all. Congratulations on your purchase! The Designer SE is one of the top selling top-of-the-line machines in the world and is rated Best Buy as well. I am a Husqvarna Viking dealer in Duncan, BC and if you have any questions about your machine please feel free to email me or visit my website at http://www.sewfabulous.ca. Happy embroidering!

I just purchased a Designer 1 and love it!  My dealer (strictly Viking) sells only Madeira, Sulky, and Gutterman for their machines.  I have already used Madeira in my machine and it worked like a charm.  The rayon 40 is the most commonly used but if you're doing something that will take a lot of abuse (like embroidery on items that will get washed alot) try the polyneon (polyester instead rayon) as it is more colorfast and durable.  The industry uses polyester on sweatshirts, team jerseys, etc..
