Emery sources for pincushions

smr | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

I have been searching for ages for a source where I may purchase emery for pincushions.  The bud part of most pincusions is just not large enough for me when I want to sharpen needles and I would love to make a customized pincushion filled with emery.

If there is not source than do you think sand would work? Or does anyone have another suggestion?

Thanks for your help

I searched the Internet a few weeks ago when I was making a pincushion/scrap bag and decided I could do without the black dust.  I already have emery "berries" and a Clover brand sharpener that I found at Jo-Ann Fabric.   A little pricey, but Jo-Ann always has coupons to help with that.

I settled on reptile aquarium sand for the pincushion I was making.  I don't know how sharp it makes the pins, but the fine grit of the sand should have some effect.

Thank you for the tip.  I will check at a pet supply place and see if this will work.
