I am making a christening dress–did most of my heirloom sewing years ago–and am not sure how to go about joining with entredeux. My recollection is that you should trim the batiste away, and use a zigzag stitch with stitch length just right so it goes in the little hole each time. Is this correct?
Please answer yes or no–obviously, I would love help if the answer is no! TIA Diane

I would stitch it first and then cut off the excess. That way a little tiny bit of the batiste will get caught in the stitching and it will hold up a little better.
ARGGH it took about five times before I was able to replay to this post. I logged in and still did not get the "reply" button. It showed up on others finally but took a while to show up here. This is still a pretty unfriendly sight at times.
It depends on if you are joining to lace or to fabric.
If joining to lace, then yes; trim first and zig zag as close as possible into each hole and just the header of the lace.
If joining to fabric, use a straight stitch to seam fabric to the intact entredeaux seam allowance, with the stitch butting right up alongside the holes, then trim the seam to between scant 1/4"-1/8". Finish by close zig zagging the seam allowance with the zig going just along the edge of the entredeaux holes (not into them) and the zag going off the edge of the fabric so that the seam allowance rolls.
