This isn’t really about sewing, but it’s difficult, with all you wise women out there, to not ask anyway. My husband just got one of those fancy Leatherman tools, and on the case, that hangs on your belt it says Leatherman in gold leaf lettering on leather. He wants to get it off of there, and I was thinking that since it does have to do with leather, someone might have an idea?

you could maybe try some fabric paint in a color that matches the leather and paint over the letters. I'd test it in a spot on the back first.

Is the leather case natural-colored or dyed? I have an evil suspicion that gold lettering would tend to repel any dye or paint you put over it. If the leather is natural-colored, you might be able to buff or sand the letters off, but then, you'd have to re-finish the leather of the whole case, because the abraded area would be paler.
Why not ask someone at a local saddlery or leatherworks store?
Leather is very forgiving, so as long as you use common sense to not go overboard, I'd try acetone (nail polish remover),or, denatured alcohol, or, Goof Off (a paint remover solvent), I'd try a very small amount on a Q-tip and rub on a small area. If you find something that works, and you remove all the paint, some saddle soap and paste shoe wax will bring back the finish on the leather.
Hope that helps.
I don't have any suggestions to add (you got a lot of good ones, I think) but it brings to mind a pet peeve.......why do we have to be walking advertisements for everything we buy? It must bother you as well, or you wouldn't be asking for advice to get rid of one. There isn't always the alternative of a non-logoed product so I feel trapped sometimes. Fortunately, it doesn't keep me awake at night. rjf
I had to chuckle at your musing, the tags/logos drive me and my children mad! Sometimes they are huge, sometimes sewn on the side seam 'on the outside', sometimes printed on the outside back of the neck, and why, Oh why would I pay top dollar at a retailer so I can wear clothes with their name across the chest, across the butt and down each leg.... they should give the clothes away and pay me royalties to wear them, LOL!
Thank you all for your kind help. While I was out today, he used his Leatherman and scraped off the lettering very carefully--pretty good tool, huh? LOL! I will give him the saddle soap and shoe wax, tip, though. Right now it looks, as he so aptly put it, "distressed"!!! Thanks again!
