Experiment with Beading

chichm | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

With embellishments now so popular–especially on expensive clothes like the ones sold at Saks, etc., I decided to try my hand at some simple beading on a T-shirt pattern. I had some lovely crinkly pink jersey and made a simple V-neck shirt, then attached some pink bugle beads and round beads at the V. The result was sensational. I could wear this anywhere with jeans or fancy skirt. Now I’m looking at the possibility of trimming a tie-dyed cardigan set in yellow and can hardly wait to get started.

I hand sew beads to garments.  I do wash the garments in the washing machine, inside out, but hang dry them.  I use Guttermann thread to sew the beads on but I have used silk thread as well.  Don't make the stitches too tight.  It will wrinkle and draw up the fabric.  Use thread to match/blend with the fabric.
