Hello again!
I’d like to put an exposed zipper on a pair of pants in the same place as a fly zipper. I want to keep the fly placket backing but have the zipper exposed. I have read in sewing books that these kinds of zippers can only be installed in places where there is no seam, but I have seen pants like these.
So how do you do it, an exposed zipper on a seam?

What do you mean by an "exposed" zipper? Do you mean one where the teeth are showing, or do you want the whole thing, zipper and tape as well to show?
It is where only the teeth are showing like in jackets.
Look at this article. It talks about an exposed zipper that ends flush with a pants leg hem, but you could insert it any place in your garmet or decorative item by making the "V" on both ends. I am thinking this method would work on the front seam where you want to put it.
