Fabric for Yoga pants

berlinsews | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

Hello! I am new here… I would like to sew myself some yoga pants using a McCall pattern. I am wondering what type of fabric to use and where I might be able to find it? The only fabric sources I have are Joann’s and Fabric Depot of Portland. Are there any good online sources for this type of fabric? Thanks for any help!

What types of fabrics are listed on the pattern?

Most yoga pants are made with t-shirt fabric - 97% cotton, 3% spandex is pretty standard.  I know because I happened to check the labels on a couple of pairs I have yesterday when I was doing the laundry.

Thanks for the help. I talked to some helpful people at The Rainshed here in Oregon and they suggested their cotton/lycra. I am getting some swatches to check out.

don't you prefer The Mill End store in portland?  I take special trips up from corvallis just to go there.  Good luck - I do yoga in cotton/lycra or supplex/lycra blends.  if you're ever in corvallis, we have The Rain Shed which has a fantrastic selection of active wear fabrics.

    good luck!  martha

I have not seen the McCalls pattern that you are talking about but I take yoga and find that as long as the pants are more form fitting I feel more comfortable as well.  I for one do not like having my pant legs falling above my knee when I am doing any kind of upside down type poses.  Also as long as it has enough Lycra to bounce back nicely and not look really baggy is also a plus.

    Hope this helps.
