I am going to be attaching alencon lace to a chiffon blouse. This will be worn as a costume only once, so it doesn’t have to be attached perfectly. Can I use fabric glue? or will this make the alencon appliques stiff and they will not flow with the fabric? Any thoughts? Also, is there a particular brand of fabric glue that will work? Thanks for any advice.

Yes I have glued miles of lace to every fabric and it stays on well--even through hand washing. The secret is to make tiny dots of glue 1/8 inch or less more or less where you would pin or stitch the lace. Put glue on fabric, place lace on top and leave alone until glue is dry. Do as much as you can on flat pieces, it's just easier. If there are unglued places you don't like, just give it another dot of glue. Don't get any glue where you don't want it; it dries shiney. I have glue basted bridal lace to a lining, you name it and it works. The brands I prefer are Aleens super tacky glue and Gem-Tac. Tip Reminder: Stand your open bottle of glue upside down in a ceramic cup and you don't have to "wait". If the glue clogs up the tip, just pull the clot loose with your fingers. BTW I was fortunate to be able to visit MJ Trims in NYC and there were two store employees gluing braid onto fabric. This was a custom order for the store, and they said they wanted to know if there was really any difference, so one was using Aleens and the other Gemtac. Galey
