Hi Everyone,
I have seen the memory quilts out there using the fabric you put through your printer, but I am not a quilter and right now don’t have the time to learn the skills. But I really wanted to try this. So I took a family photo and printed it out on 4 pieces of the fabric paper. (This stuff is cool) Then I added it to my backround fabric, and mounted it. My husband made me a frame and then I decorated the photo with flowers that I made. It came out so Beautiful I wanted to share it. I have never posted pictures here so I hope this worked and my photo gets posted.
I would love to know if others have tried this stuff and what you did with it.

That's fabulous!I'm sure you've found that there are LOTS of suggestions and support here for "not what it was designed for, but it works!" experiments ~ teehee!Bright Blessings ~ Kharmin
the photo was taken on a cruise on the Royal Caribbean line? Voyager of the Seas?
No it was on one of the other cruise lines and for the life of me I can't think of the name of it.
Pam
Carnival that was it. I don't remember the name of the boat but it went out of Tampa.
That's so funny. I have a photo with the same background from Royal Caribbean.
Wow! You did an excellent job! The flowers & butterfly are lovely - appliqued or embroidered first?
They are embroidered and wired first, then I used floral staples poked through the fabric and foam core to adhere them to the photo.
Oh - that's why they look so 3-dimensional - because they are. Is it a shadowbox frame with glass over it to keep the dust off?
No I would like to have done that but my my husband just did the frame. I may in the future take it in to a frame shop and have one done for it.
You can usually get the shadow box frames at Michaels (wait for a sale), which would be less expensive than a frame shop, & do it yourself. It would still be very striking - & protected from dust & whatever is in the air.
I will have to check that out. I live on a dirt road so dust is a problem. Right now I use canned air to dust it.

Did you also spray the photo with a fixative to protect it before you added the frame?
Gloria
I used a spray adhesive to adhere it to the back. I am not sure if that is what you are talking about. This was the first time I had seen anything like the fabric that you can print on. So it was all new to me.
No, the spray adhesive wasn't what I was talking about. The fixative is a spray that you spray directly on the front of the photo if you are not protecting it with glass. It protects against dust, pollution in the air, etc. I think I bought mine at a camera/photo shop, & it wasn't terribly expensive.
Did you print the photo directly on the photo fabric, or was it the flowers for the frame? You might not need the fixative if the photo is on the fabric, as it will be washable (if you cured it & pressed it on the back with an iron to set it), but then, if you glued it to a backing, I can't say, as it wouldn't be washable then. Sorry.

Thanks I will have to go look for some because that is something i was worryed about. the photo is printed on the fabric and the flowers are thread and stabalizer. I appreciate the tip. I love doing the photos this way. I just printed one for my daughter of her wedding and that is going to be my next big project for her 2nd anniversary.
You shouldn't need the fixative for a photo printed on fabric - just let it cure for the length of time suggested in the directions, then press it, face down, on a paper towel. That should be enough to set it. It you want it to be washable (if it were a cushion cover, for instance), don't glue it to a firm background. It can be wrapped around a piece of cardboard & taped at the back to hold it in place. It also looks good if you put a thin layer of batting between the photo & the cardboard, as well as a thin layer of batting behind the fabric frame.
Thank you for all the advice. I am working on another one for my daughter so I will try your suggestions.

O my goodness, that is so very beautiful. You did a wonderful job and the picture frame is just perfect. Thanks for sharing.
What a unique and lovely new family heirloom! Your creativity really shines in the variety of techniques you used. It turned out great and it's even better that your husband got to participate, makes it even more special.
Thanks for sharing with us all! What embroidery designs did you use? Can you please explain how you wired them? I am intrigued and would love to try the technique to make faery crowns for costumes. What sized and type of wire? Please dish!!! I love it! Mary
The flower petals are stitched out flat and then wire stitched down last. Then I use a stencil cutter to cut them out, and put them together. In some of them I use 22 gage in some, and 26 gage cloth coverd in others. You can look at my site for a better look if you would like. Or you can contact me directly and we can talk cause your idea sounds interesting also.

Thanks we found the perfect site for an old fashioned southern wedding. Its in the historical district of a little town in fFlorida. Right on a small lake surrounded by huge southern homes. It was a beautiful wedding.
What a wonderful and unique use! Makes a special family portrait more special. Cathy
A treasure to be sure!!!!!
Would you consider hand embroidering the date it was done as well as the date of the photo in a corner of the backing along with you initials? You might also identify the folks in the photo as well. A significant amount of embroidery indeed. Though, MO, having the data might matter in the future.

Digitized Picture
You have design it very well. You can also get your picture in digitized format which can be sewn on the fabric or on whatever you want to. It is the most advance technique nowadays. You can search for Digitizing Services.
