Fabulous Fit or Uniquely You?

DeeZine | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

I want to get a dress form, but I’m not sure of which to get. Has anyone tried the Fabulous Fit dress form. I did some research and found some negative comments about the Uniquely You dress form. Has anyone had  any good results with the Uniquely You? I want a dress form to match my body but I’m worried about my dress form look too ‘bumpy” I am rather small but have a few bumps myself. 🙂 Right now I have the kind that you dial but I wanted to get something that is more accurate to my body shape . (I am not willing to do the duct tape or paper method). Thanks in advance.

I don't own a dress form myself (yet) but there is at least one discussion thread on PatternReview for Uniquely You forms, with some fairly recent comments.  I think the general opinion is that they require a lot of work to match your figure, including "surgery" on the form, but once you have it, the form is great.  I'm don't know if there is any info about Fabulous Fit, but there is so much info there I'd be surprised if there isn't.

I've got a Uniquely You form but haven't had the time (or the nerve) to fit it yet. However, upon looking at the form more closely I realized that even though my measurements fit the size I ordered, there wasn't enough room for my DDD bust and the tie /cleavage part as well. I called the company and they not only sent me a new cover at no charge, the gentleman I spoke with had one of the seamstresses alter the cover before it was sent to make it easier for me to fit myself. I was stunned at the great level of custoemr service!!

Customer Service is to be highly praised wherever, whenever.  It makes every aspect of life so much more pleasant.  I haven't been in the market for a dress form, but if ever I am, I WILL remember your comments on the level of customer service from Uniquely You!  Gail

Hi DeeZine:  How do either of these dressforms replicate your posture?  In making my own dress form (My Twin but there are other approaches) it was my seeing how my posture changed the back of my body that was revealing to me and helpful as a fitting tool.  If either of them can give a slouch, a rounded back, a dowagers hump, a super straight posture, a higher hip on one side, a curved spine, a sway back etc., then you will be well on your to a great fitting helper.  Sorry I couldn't answer your question, only providing an additional question to ask.  Scrubble4

I believe the Fabulous Fit  can replicate your posture somewhat. From the photos I've seen, it looks like you can add or remove various paddings where you need them.  I think I will stick to my Dritz dress form with the adjustable dials for now. I just wanted to know if anyone had any success with them. I was pleasantly surprise to hear of the great customer service one replier received from Uniquely You.

I'd llike to chime in here about the Fabulous Fit Forms. We had to buy these when I was in school. We were all measured and then sent forms that were about 2 sizes smaller than we were so you can 'pad out' and build it up to your size. _ I'm a size 10 or so, I was sent a size 4 or 6 form - I don't remember which one, but she sits in my closet buried under who know what.Yes, I like the pads that come with her, but a size 6 has a MUCH shorter waist length than I do, and there is no way to lengthen that. the company said (I tried to return her for a larger size) said to just pad up her shoulders - well that doesn't work! Then they said to take a knife and trim away at the hips!. She is made of a hard foam sort of stuff - they foam that is in wall fillers in a can? so you can cut her up if you need to. I felt like taking the butcher knife to the lady at the company.I do like the pads, and use them to pad my dress form that I got at Joanns - I also like the knit cover I use that too, but the body, she is buried! No, the dress forms I have (I have 2 diff. ones) don't replicate posture, but I do custom clothing for others so I use their body when I need it, and the dress forms are for hanging things on while I work if needed.

Thanks jigg! I appreciate your response! You had me laughing. I'm just wondering if you would have problems if you were sent the right size form. Since you like the pads and the knit cover you might have liked the form if it was the correct size. You think? If I lived close by I would be willing to take the dress form off your hands cause I can use a size 6.

          Have a Happy Holiday!
