I purchased 2yds of a burgandy faux leather which had a black backing. As per the book Fabric Savvy, I washed the fabric and boy was I disappointed. The fabric came out of the washer bubbly and almost completely detached from the backing. Then, as per the book I put it in the dryer and this time I was horrified. The fabric came out stuck to itself (it seems the wrong side sticks) and when you try to pull it apart it tears. WHAT DID I DO WRONG?
I am making piping and a purse. Any ideas on cutting, interfacing and sewing. Thanks

What were the cleaning or washing instructions on the fabric bolt or that came with it? If what you did was consistent with the seller's information I think you need to return it. I don't see how you can work with it in this condition.
Aren't you glad this happened before you spent your time cutting and sewing. This is why fabric should be prewashed or precleaned, so any disasters are already done with.
In a book I recently purchased from Clothilde's, "Sew Smart" there is a chapter on ultaleather and ultrasuede. It says that washing ultraleather will not change it, but dryer will shrink it. 1 5/8" piece shrank 1/2"in length and 7/8 in width. Not sure you had ultrleather as it has no backing on it. I used a piece of faux leather and did not wash it in the machine because I was making seat pads for a couple of bar chairs. Made a piping too. I think I will just wipe them off when they get dirty.
