finising the top of a fly zipper off

Berniece | Posted in General Discussion on

I have just finished making a pair of “below the waist” pants without a waist band.I have had trouble finishing the top of the fly zipper off, so that the flap did not open at the top.

Is there away that I can finish this off so the flap stays close?

Love to have some ideas.

Could you create a tab on the underside at the top with a buttonhole that would pull the two edges together and the zipper would ride over the tab and not have any of the top edge strain.

I'd put a hook inside the top corner and a thread loop on the other side.  Sometimes a loop on the underside of the fly and a button on the inside waistband works because it takes the strain off the top side of the fly front.  And sometimes, you might need both.     rjf

I have a rtw pair like that and the underneath has a zipper facing and the zipper starts about 7/8" from waist with one of those flat metal sew on hooks with a bar on the under facing.  The facing on that side is sewn to the end of facing. on the upper it is folded back diagonally to clear the zipper.

PS.  I like these pants and find the top lays nicely.
