fitting a sleeveless shirt

turquoisedeb | Posted in Fitting on

This is my first time here.  I’ve been sewing for years, but now I want to make things that fit.  My problem is that I’m making a sleeveless shirt with a low vneck that attaches to an empire waist.  The fitting of the bust is done through gathers below the bust.  Two problems here; one, the neckline gaps and two, the armhole also gaps. I don’t know how fix both of these problems.  Thanks for any help.

First, what cup size are you? If you are larger than a B cup you need to choose your size by your upper bust measurement and then do a full bust adjustment. The neckline can possibly be attributed to stretching and you can ease this back to size by using a stay tape cut to the pattern and use lots, I mean lots, of pins to ease the neckline onto the tape. You can also take out a small amount in the pattern before you cut it. The armskye is too big around and there is not enough fabric to cover the bust so it gaps.
