Fitting for a big belly?
I thought I remembered having read somewhere (here? in Threads mag?) on how to accommodate an abundant belly when making a cycling jersey, but I can’t seem to find it. I’m planning to make one for my dad, and he is a little ample in the abdomen. I have the Green Pepper cycling jersey pattern. Advice?
I don't have the book to check but I think "The Reader's Digest Complete Book of Sewing" has information on altering for a man's belly.
Thank you... I will check that out!
I read on Amazon that the newest version doesn't have it. Look for the older version.
However - I think you need to add length and width to the front (similar to adding a bust dart to a women's pattern that hasn't got one). Ease the side seam.
I sew for men (dress vests and mardi-gras costumes) and the alteration for women's large bust works for these figures. Just align your cross-wise alteration with the top of the curve. WARNING: DO NOT mention to a man that you have made this alteration. They will immediately insist that their garment is too big, and they will never forget it! God bless you as you sew for your MEN.
Think maternity top. ;-)
Thanks, everybody. I found the Reader's Digest book, then referenced a few maternity articles. Successfully made a cycling jersey for my dad!
