fittted jeans – how to enlarge waistb…
*
I bought new jeans at the start of the summer for school – but now I have
a problem with the waistband being too tight around my son’s middle. The
hips fit fine. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to enlarge the
waistband? I am thinking of changing the fitted waistband to an elastic waistband (at the back) by cutting the waistband and adding a piece of denim and then inserting elastic – but I am not sure if the jean material (under the waistband – the back of the jean) will stretch – or if I will ruin the jeans. Any suggestions – either on how to do the above – or any alternate ways to enlarge the waistband would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can unpick the back waistband from side seam to side seam, then cut it, open it up, and seam in a matching piece long enough to accomodate your son's waist (plus a little extra, since most boys like the bands a bit loose, anyhow). Depending on your son's age, this would probably be more successful than adding elastic at the back, which would make the rear a bit poochy. Little tiny boys don't really notice that, but older ones do.
*yes, i was wondering his age, too. my 13-yr-old is incredibly picky, and has been for awhile....this sounds like a good solution.
