Or doing tailoring, what type of thread chain do you prefer using to secure the linings? How do you make yours?
Circa 1947, when I made a 3 piece suit under mother’s tutelage, she used X’s, calling them attached tailor tacks. I also came to know marking tailor tacks at this same time because she had me making these during the cutting out.
If you do make thread chains, what do you use? Sewing thread braided? Pearle floss? Strands of floss braided or entwined?
I pose the questions because of a one-on-one exchange on my post addressing lining pants with sport mesh.

I use buttonhole twist. It's a practical choice as this thread has a multitude of other uses.

Of course! Thanks for the heads up on using this.

I've used two methods: (1) a short chain made from crocheting regular sewing thread, or (2) a loop of 4 strands of thread connecting the lining to the garment, then covering the loop with half-hitch knots, using the needle and thread. My sewing machine also does a chain stitch, and I could just stitch a short chain, then attach it by hand, but I think it's easier to do the whole chain by hand.

Agree with this being better accomplished by hand.
Thanks for your input.

I use a fine crochet hook and pure cotton yarn/thread used for doillies (comes in black and white and takes dye well because it's cotton. I did this for a heavy cashmere coat and it's lasted a good 18 years!

Another good choice. Thank you for the mention.
