Gaping armholes

Help! I’m trying to attempt to alter a sleeveless dress pattern. My first alteration is to make the neckline narrower. Accomplished that. My second alteration is to make the pattern narrow in front chest – accomplished that by seam allowance method. I need help with my last alteration – HOW DO I CORRECT GAPING ARMHOLES? I am a 32A, wear a size
6 in standard pattern measurement sizes.

Can you fold a dart out of the "gaped" section? If that creates too much fullness over your bust maybe you could make the armscye length shorter by lowering the shoulder?

*Fold out the gap at the armscye. Then transfer the dart to another location. My first choice would be the waist. Most of us could use a skoch more room there AND you're likely to have a princess seam dart in the pattern. You can make the dart deeper and you'll likely want to lengthen it.Lowering the shoulder has the same effect (dart transference) but you'll change the fit around the neck and have to redo your neckline.

*Vicki-even a 32A can need a dart, though it seems contrary to the rule that patterns are drafted for B cup. It depends on where your fullness is. I also need to add or change darts and now wear a 36A. The multisize patterns (like Burda) help a lot with this, as you can move in and out across the size lines as needed.
