Hello Everyone. I am enjoying the Threads site and the Gatherings forum. My Rowenta iron just caught on fire (literally) so I am in the market for a new iron. Based on the posts I have read, the Sussman Super 4A iron looks like it would be a good one. The Pacific Steam has such a short warranty period that I am concerned about purchasing one. Should I consider something else? I have never purchased from AllBrands. But I am not finding many sources for the iron.
I would love to get my hand on the Threads (issue 105) article about ironing systems but I don’t have time to wait for a past issue to be sent to me. I am going to check at the public library tomorrow to see if they have a copy.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My Rowenta handle gets so hot that I keep a glove nearby to protect my hand when I iron. Do you think I should take heed of this warning? I'm about to look up the issue you mentioned, and will let you know if I find it. Good luck!

My handle never got hot. I heard a popping sound and my cord was on fire. I as glad I was in the room ( I sometimes leave while it is heating up). Some how the iron shorted out but the wall socket is fine. It was the iron that was on fire. I never thought about having a fire extinguisher in my sewing room. I may have to reconsider.
My Rowentas have all spit water and now with the latest excitement I know I have to go in another direction.
Thanks for looking for issue 105. I will check back to see if you find anything interesting. :)
I have issue 105 in hand. Is there anything I can do to help you? For the Sussman listing, the phone # 718-937-4500 is given.
How did it rate the Sussman?
This article doesn't rate irons. It decribes the ironing process, the kinds of equipment, the nature of various fibers, and things like that. I seem to recall reading a comparison of brands somewhere, and that's what I'd like to find. I'll let you know if I find it. Does anyone know if that info was in a Threads issue?
Betsy
We didn't rate the products, but did provide information on what kinds of pressing systems are available from which manufacturers, along with web addresses and phone numbers.
Sorry to hear about the fire--what good luck that you were there to extinguish it

Carol, My iron hasn't ignited...yet. That's MMM1 . Mine just gets a hot handle.
Hi, Betsy--I know! I replied to the wrong message. And then I went home and had nightmares about flaming irons last night. Actually, in the dream I managed to use my fire extinguisher successfully, so I guess that's a good omen?

and I just iron with a glove on at all times. This is absurd!
I have a Rowenta and use it for ironing quick things. What I really love is my Bernina ironing system:both the iron and the board. At first I didn't use it much. Finally forced myself to use it and love it. If you are interested in a good ironing system, I suggest the Bernina ironing system.
I will go and check that out. We have a large store in our area that carries Bernina. I plan to go out today to investigate some of my options.
Thanks for your reply
