A fabric store in my town just closed (Plenty of Textiles in Seattle). It used to carry a wool, silk, cotton and the several bolts of Guatamalan handwoven fabrics… along with Ikats from other countries.
I always meant to get some for a project, but by the time I got there for their going out of business sale, almost all the ikats were gone (I got a handwoven that was a plain wide stripe).
Does anyone know of a source for fabrics from Guatamala, or other types of handwoven ikats? Preferably on the Internet… or even any store along Interstate 5 on the west coast, and possibly I-10 to Tucson … or from there up to Denver (note, a planned summer trip to relatives and Disneyland this summer, hoping to hit a few fabric stores).
Yet another reason to buy fabric… it could be gone.
Thanks

Guatamalan fabric is available on this site: http://www.salsafabrics.com/
*Thanks a bunch. I've put the site on my list of favorites... Thanks. Chris
*I found a website that sells 100% handwoven guatemalan fabrics:www.globalfabric.com
*Stone Mountain and Daughter in Berkeley CA has a very good selection of ethnic fabrics including guatemalans, africans, japanese, indian and others. I am sure that they would send you swatches in Seattle if you asked them nicely. Anyway they are off of 5 about an hour toward San Francisco, but then Berkeley is an adventure well worth the detour. Also Britex in SF has some ethnics as well but more expensive and not as extensive as Stone Mountain---SF store and SF prices.
*Global Village Imports in Portland has stopped selling retail (they still do wholesale) BUT the owner does list pieces on Ebay. They often go for pretty reasonable prices, though it is not as gratifying as going to a storefront and getting to look at all their stock at once. Type "ikat" into a search and they will come up.Good luck
*Try http://www.wyldwmn.comHer stuff is hand woven by women and she claims the actual village women get the money ---or some of it.Barb RevereREdwood City, CA 94062
