Has anyone used Marfy patterns?

fabricectasy | Posted in General Discussion on

I became aware of Marfy patterns at a great fabric store in Rochester, MN. They have great designs, but no instructions. I am wondering if anyone has used these, and if so, how did it go? Would you recommend them?

You might want to do a search of posts because there was someone having problems with this pattern company a while back and I don't know if it was resolved.  I remember the the marking of grainline was confusing.

    They do look interesting though

Marfy patterns are fabulous!  However, they are not beginner-oriented.  There are no instructions, and often you will not even have a photo of the finished garment for reference (unless you have access to the catalog).  The cut is outstanding, and the finished garments have details you don't often see in other patterns.

Be aware that the patterns must be ordered by size.  There is no multi-sizing in Marfy patterns.  You receive your pattern in one size only.  The markings are in Italian, but if you pay attention carefully, they are easy to decipher.  Grainlines may or may not be marked; you can determine the grainline by positioning the pattern pieces flat on the table, as if putting together a puzzle.  In most cases, your grainline should be parallel to the center front or center back on all pieces.

Seam allowances and hem allowances are not included.

This may sound as if Marfy patterns are challenging.  They can be.  But the reward is a superbly cut, Italian high-style garment.  You will love the resulting style!

        Shannon,

Thanks for your feedback on the patterns. It is reassuring that they really do work well.

Sewing Divas has a page on a Marfy jacket pattern if you choose to check.
