Hello, I’m new to sewing – again

threeoutside | Posted in General Discussion on

I’m so glad to have found this site!  I haven’t sewn for – oh dear – over 30 years.  I have a nice little home sewing machine, I have no lofty ambitions – I just want to make simple clothes for myself, and maybe a few home items (pillows; Roman shades). I’m going to start VERY simply and work slowly upward. Part of my slowly starting is just reading – here, in magazines, browsing through fabrics and pattern books at the fabric store, and lots of thinking.

I’m sure there have been new tools and methods developed in the last 30 years and I’m interested in learning about those, too.  And I look forward to participating in some interesting topics here!

Welcome Terry!  If you haven't been sewing for while, you will find a lot of new fabrics and might want to look into a good source as to how to handle them, what findings to use, needles etc.  One of the best ones I've found - and currently my favorite - is "More Fabric Savvy" by Sandra Betzina.  I also like Claire Shaffer's book entitled: "Fabric Sewing Guide", but Sandra's book is a quicker reference when in the middle of a project.  That said, I use both ...even though I've been sewing for about 60-years.

Enjoy your re-entry into your creative journey!
