Help me, please!!!!

denn4074 | Posted in General Discussion on

Hello All!  I am new to this site, so please bear with me.  I am looking to purchase a  sewing machine that also does embroidery.  I want to do mostly sewing.  I haven’t tackled sewing in years and I really miss it.  I am a stay at home mom and would love to pass the skill on to my daughter one day.  Anyways, I want a good  machine that isn’t the top of the line.  I can always look for something used, I just need some help as to what machines are better quality and easy to use.  I would prefer one with a computer touch screen.  Can anyone help????? Oh, does anyone know anything about Janome products?  More specificly the Janome 9500??

Since you are new, you may not realize that you can access all the past discussions of sewing machines by using the Advanced Search option.  Give that a try!

There is also another website called http://www.patternreview.com that not only has pattern reviews but equipment reviews, too.  You can search them all or narrow them down by manufacturer.

    Good luck!

Thanks so much for the info.  I have been there and it is just taking some time to learn how to navigate these sites. LOL  I'm learning quickly that sewing machines aren't the cheapest investment.  I am going to keep doing my research and try and find something used to get started on, and then upgrade as my skills improve.  As I stated I am a stay at home mom, so our lives revolve around trying to budget.  Anyways, thanks again I can't tell you how much I appreciate everyones input!

I went to the library and got a copy of Consumer Reports discussion on sewing machines, their prices, abilities, customer satisfaction. I ended up with a Kenmore Elite that does some embroidery and is reliable and sophisticated for its price. When I put that much $ into something, I don't want an appliance that does everything it advertises, but poorly!

I have a New Home 8000 which was before the 9500. Last year I bought a baby lock.

I love the 8000. I've never used the babylock to sew on, but I like the machine.

I also sew alot more than I emb.
