Help with lace needed.

sue1 | Posted in General Sewing Info on

I am making my 14 year old daughter an 8th grade graduation dress and need help!  I’m using a satin fabric with a lace fabric over it.  I want to use the scalloped selvage of the lace at the hemmed edge of the satin.  The problem is…how do I make the curved bottom of the skirt pattern fit the straight edge of the selvage????

Are several darts at the waist of the lace overlay my only solution?

What I do is use the scallop edge as a trim.  I cut the edge off and then sew it back on again with wisper touch thread (two shades clear and smoke)  You can't tell the difference.  Hemming is easier then.  Other people may have a different method.
