I have a RTW mens jacket and I don’t like the default shoulder pads. I like the European/Italian cut shoulder pads. You know the highly padded ones with the nice curve from the neck to the sleeve head. Can I take out the existing one and replace it? How do I make a highly padded shoulder pad and replace it. Does it have to do with just the pad or the pattern of the jacket. Please help, I’ve attached some pics for reference. Thanks!

This alteration is one of the most difficult and even accomplished and experienced sewers hesitate to take it on. I just finished altering a woman's jacket from the huge shoulders down to one in fashion now, and I can tell you what with all the seam adjustments (shoulder, sleeve head, side-front princess seam,) it took a lot of temporary seams and try-ons not to mention doing the same with the lining. After another look at your photos, I notice that this style is a closer fit to the body with a more natural shoulder and you most likely wouldn't need more padding, but less in a different conformation. The shape of the shoulder pad would have to be different but it is possible to cut down and reshape the ones that are there now.If you are just beginning to sew, I would hesitate a lot by encouraging you to do this as a first project. However, if the suit is unwearable now it would be a really good learning experience to learn about the construction of the tailored jacket.
Hi, Thanks for the info. I will dabble with it and see where it goes. Who knows!
