I'm new to patterns. Bought window treatment patterns, but need to adjust them to fit 88" window. Patterns only go to 36" or 42" or 54" wide max. Can anyone tell me if there's a way to make them fit the size I need, or is it beyond an amature's skill? (some are simple, some are a little harder) Do I have to return these patterns because I can't use the sizes? Most people sew clothing, and I seem to be having a difficult time finding someone who can help me. TIA for responses.

*Adrianne - Obviously you will need to add 34" to the largest pattern or 46" to the 42" pattern, etc. You did not describe what the finished window treatment looks like so this is a little difficult but I'll try. If the treatment is the same across the window like pinch pleat drapes you just need to add another section(s) that will equal the finished amount you need to add making sure you leave seam allowances on the new section(s) and adding seam allowances to the orginal section(s). I would add the new section(s) in the middle since the outside edges may be slightly different. If the pattern is all in one piece cut on the crosswide grain (versus sections) you can split the pattern and add tissue paper in the middle equal to the length you need to add. If you need to add 36" and the distance from the end of one pleat to the end of the next is 12" you would need to add the equivalent of 3 pleats with the tissue paper. (You could copy the middle of the pattern layout onto the tissue paper to help with forming the pleats.) If the addition is not even you might have to add a little extra between each pleat across the addition or across the entire drape to keep the proportions even. Now, if the window treatment is shorter through the middle with longer side pieces you have two options. You could just add to the middle section or you could add a section to the middle and a section to each side piece. If the side pieces are angled at the bottom you will need to decide if you want to redraw the angle incorporating the added section or if you want to add length. If adding length add the new section on the outside. Remeber to adjust the original outside piece if the outside edge is different from the rest of the treatment.Do remember to allow seam allowances on both the old section(s) and new section(s).This is all clear as mud, right? Hope it helps.
