I am not much of a sewing pro, but I have found that my PC could be of great use.
The experiment I have conducted just this week is to draw a pattern on the computer (for a very simple african-style pair of pants), along with the cutting & sewing instructions.
Then I printed the pattern (over 16 standard-size pages, because the main pieces are 3-by-4 foot), I taped them all together, and it made me a fine pattern (& disposable !).
The two main advantages is
1 - that I can get a new pattern each time I make this kind of pants (with possible size adjustments on the computer, and not on the paper).
2 - that I can post the pattern by e-mail, or leave it on a website for downloading.
A most interesting thing is that the CAD software I used is no other than ... MS PowerPoint (that automatically comes in with most PCs, in the MSOffice pack, along with MS-Windows), which has very powerful line-art drawing features once you get to know how they work.
I could show you the pattern I've made, but it is all in French (and I am not sure I know English sewing words so well if I wanted to translate it), so you'd better come and have a look on the forum where I posted it if you understand some French:
