60 years I’ve been sewing. I used to follow my mother around the house and beg her to show me how to do things. I now have her sewing machine plus two more.

A 60 year old sewing machine probably sews a very fine seam. What kind? Gail
GailAnn: Well older than 60 years. It's a Sears brand. It's one of the first pieces of furniture my parents bought after they got married. I was just a baby, my dad was working long hours at Willowrun defense plant in Detroit. My mother sewed. They then had children's dress packages of pattern, fabric, buttons, whatever was needed and she made many of those for me. With an attachment I think it makes the best buttonholes of all, Including my two newer "fancy" machines.
I remember those Package Dress Kits!
I had one that was a shetland wool skirt and a Fairlsle sweater in wool to match! The patterned yolk of the sweater had already been knitted up, but the rest of the sweater had to be knitted to fit, and the skirt made in the same wool fabric.
I was about 15 or 16 years old at the time. I did finish the skirt, and wore it often. The sweater became a tangle of yarn, I kept it around for years, until I finally gave the whole thing up, and threw it out.
It would have been a beautiful, darling outfit, if my skills had been higher and I had been more mature. Gail
