how to resize photos to post here?

MaryinColorado | Posted in Photo Gallery on

Help!  I am having trouble posting photos that aren’t huge!  I’d appreciate instructions that make it as simple as possible as my fibrofog has really kicked in lately.  Mary

I wonder IF THERE IS a simple answer for this!  I played around with my photo file ... it is Camedia and it came with my Olympus camera.  I noted that almost all the photos that showed well in the posts were under 500KB and mine in the file as they come from the camera (as yours must be) are MB.  I had to go through some steps to find the mode that let me resize.  First I called up the picture, then clicked on edit then on image to finally find the resizing button.  Then I had to figure out how to resize (?) and when I clicked on one of the boxes it let me lower the number.  Changing the no. in one box seemed to change it in all the others.  Next I had to save it as a jpeg file and found out by trial and error that I had to rename the picture as a new picture or I might lose the original.   When you want to post the picture you have to post the jpeg version.  Unless you can find someone to actually show you how to do it with what you have, I don't think playing around with it will hurt anything.  Just try it out on a picture you don't care if you lose.  I didn't actually lose anything but things mysteriously disappeared and came up in another spot.  Aren't computers fun?  But, I did figure out how to resize my pictures!

To see if I had made the picture small enough, I opened a post box and downloaded my picture then previewed it to see how it would come out.  Then I just deleted it.

Thank You, this is very helpful.  I think I can decrease the size by 50% on the jpeg copies.  I just wish there was  a quick and dirty way to copy and edit the size of an entire file, that would sure simplify things.  My email program makes them small when I attatch them right away, then if people want to look at them larger, they just click on them.  Too bad that doesn't work here.  Maybe the computer experts at Gatherings will fix this for us so it happens each time we load a photo.  Now that would be grand!  I don't need all those extra copies cluttering up my computer and confusing me, bleh!  Mary

I suppose it is useless for someone like me to try to understand what the computer is doing, but when I think back to the first computer we had in the house, a Commodore, and all the steps one had to go through to do anything, it amazes me just how "user-friendly" they keep making it.  So... mayber there is still hope for some magic in the picture category for us who need it.

Thank you so much for your instructions!  Our first computer was an Apple 2C and we bought it for the extra washable Sesame Street Muppet keyboard so I could use it for teaching my son and my Preschool children.

Thanks to you, I was able to post the photos of my wallhanging.  It is an emotional piece for me as the dragonflies represent transiton and transformation and the dandelions represented wishes and hope for the future which correlate to my current life circumstances.  I learned so many new techniques as I worked/played with it.  So really wanted to share it.  You helped make that possible.  Mary

You're welcome... I try to get my husband to "play" more with the buttons on the computer but then something happens and he blames me for needing "damage control" from someone in the Ukraine (or India?).  That is happening right now because our AOL will not kick in and I have gone to Internet Explorer.  It works, but not as conveniently for me.

I love MSN,  I've tried about all of them through the years and this is my favorite, through Qwest, it had an update that fixed the old Explorer problems too, just fixed that before I posted the photos.  Before, explorer was freezing up my "confuser".

Sure gets old fast talking to those folks in other countries about an issue here.  Now when I need to call a customer service rep, I ask them where they are located, if they aren't in the USA and can't refer me to someone here, I close the account and won't deal with them anymore.  I didn't mind speaking to people in India though, they always seemed very intelligent, efficient, and polite and I love their accents.  Didn't really have a problem there.

Another country's CS screwed up our credit rating over an emergency room bill so bad, it took our insurance two years to pay the darn thing.  (They kept pretending to be supervisors and saying it had been corrected and rebilled.  I think it should be illegal, but how do you go to court without proof when it's phone calls and letters going round and round in a loop?  They'd even say they had been paid, when they hadn't!).  It about drove me to drinkin'!
