how to use a pattern made for stretch knits to make a garment from non-stretch material

margaretmcdavid | Posted in Patterns on

I have had a hard time finding a pattern I like for a zp-front caftan/robe.  The only one I found was for stretch knits, and it is too large for me.  How can I modify this pattern to make the caftan in a plush fabric, and a size smaller?    I’m not an expert sewer, but not a novice either.  I can manage some alterations, but nothing too complicated.

    Converting Pattern

Ordinarily you could use the same size pattern for woven.  It would be best to alter a muslin that fits and use it as the pattern for the knit.

Best wishes for a successful project.
