I recently lost weight, which is awesome! But… I have a few favorite jeans that I would like to tailor so they fit me. How? Everytime I try, (don’t laugh) I can’t get my foot in the bottom, or I can see a little ruffle at the bottom where I have stopped sewing at. I am still new at sewing. Any advice is welcome

Place your jeans on a floor, table so that one side seam is as flat as possible. you will need to first identify some important parts of the seam: waist (easy enough), hip line (will be the widest part of the jeans), and knee. Place pins at these places or mark with fabric marking pen. Then, try your jeans on, making sure you can see your marks. Then pin fit your jeans ABOVE the knee line by placing the pins vertically. Do not pin below the knee line! I am assuming that your jeans are straight leg by your description. Next place them flat again and mark your new seam. It helps to have a "french curve" but you can mark your seam without one easily enough. With a fabric marking pen mark your new seam...here's where you will avoid the pitfall...You want a relatively straight line from the hip to the knee...you shouldn't need to change anything below the knee unless you are taking these in a lot. If that is the case...make your pants relatively straight to the ankle WITHOUT taking in the bottom at all. You should be able to do this without redoing the bottom hem.
Hope this helps! Karin
