I would like to see more designer advice

michellec | Posted in Feedback on Threads on

I would like to see interviews with designers about getting to the level they are at.  I would like tips from them on garment construction, ideas, different tips on working with different fabrics and maybe draping and pattern making.

Amen!  I's like to see some interviews from, even the less famous old seamstresses who once worked in the designers workrooms.  Were they called 'atleairs:?  Gail

GailAnn:  I agree about interviews with "rubber hits the road" sewers.  On our Threads here I find reading the conversations with folks earning their living doing various types of sewing activities so interesting.  They know so much and anticipate what our next questions might be and answer them for us.  I also really enjoy the deconstruction articles where beautifully made clothes are taken apart and then reconstructed with explanations about how to sew them and why certain materials and techniques are used.  Figuring out why things are done the way they are lodges them more firmly in my mind, like Channel jacket quilting and chain hem weighting.  Giving us a chance to quietly stand on the sideline of really extraordinary designers and sewers to see and hear their activities gives me the courage to try them myself.  These types of articles are what sets Threads apart from the gloss and floss magazines and the simple how to articles  Thanks for your ideas that got me thinking.  I also love articles on how to use various fabrics including the new wonder fabrics as well as traditonal fabrics.  Continually exposing myself to possibilties creates new realities for me.  Scrubble4
