I’m new

kearnine | Posted in General Discussion on

Hi, I’m new here. I’m glad to have found a place where I can post sewing questions. I’m trying to teach myself how to create my own patterns from pictures or outfits I see. Hopefully I can get some help here when I run into snags. Thanks in advance to any out there who might be able to help me. I’m about to post my first question …

Kearnine 🙂

So nice to meet you. Lot's of wonderfully helpful people here. Our conversations often wander off-track, but no one seems to mind. Welcome aboard.

Hi,I'm an avid Threads reader but new to the forum too. I posted a note in another thread but thought I'd say hi in this thread too.I just purchased the DVD fitting series from Taunton. I thought it was very helpful for modifying patterns. I also have a book by Rene Bergh on making patterns that has been a useful resource, title: Making your own patterns. And I generally love anything by Sandra Betzina. In addition to participating in the forums, I'm looking for friends in the San Diego area that love to sew with a special interest in fit and design. Please email me if you're interested in getting together: [email protected]. I've already heard from Chris and Dee in the San Diego area. I also just started a facebook page, so if you're a facebook person ...Sharon Bendall

Welcome!  This is a great site, and we all try to help each other.

I've never had any formal training in pattern making, but I make a lot from pix that clients bring me. The way I started making pattens was by finding patterns I already had that were similar and adapting them to "make it work."  I still do a lot that way, and they usually work out pretty well.  I guarantee that if you can't find help here, you'll have to take special classes to learn.  We have some wonderful seamstresses here and they have great tips that they share!
