My husband finds the wide Velcro at hardware stores such as Orchard--these days it is much used for corralling things that you use in the garage or in the yard. I have occasionally seen it in Jo-Ann's fabric stores, too (though not in all of them).
*Have you tried contacting the companies that make the velcro you find in ordinary fabric stores? Few retailers carry every item a manufacturer makes. A given hook-and-loop manufacturer might make one line directed at home sewers and another line directed at hardware stores, for instance. Also, have you tried looking in the yellow pages under “Sewing—Notions—Wholesalers”?
*Andy, Alison makes an excellent point. I have contacted http://www.velcro.com regarding a problem I was having, and found them TREMENDOUSLY helpful and responsive--truly a great company!
*Andy, did you find your velcro? I had an upholstery shop and was able to get it at the upholstery supply shop. You might try one in your area- most will sell retail or try an upholstery shop.
