Entries for the Inspired by Threads are due by July 30th so how can issue August/September be included as part of the contest. I have a garment made that was inspired by the August/September issue last year which did not get to me in time to use last year. I think you need to change the issues used for your contest. |

I agree. I noticed the dates for the contest and wondered to myself how anyone could possibly use issue number 114 as inspiration. I expect that this issue will arrive in my mailbox around July 20 or so....even if I was able to make my garment that day (!), there is no way that I could possibly get a slide or photo to arrive at the Threads offices by July 30, except by courier and the cost would be prohibitive! Perhaps Threads might choose something a little more realistic the next time around ;-)

Our publishing schedule is such that the "earliest in-home date" of delivery for issue 114 is June 30, so there's supposedly a month before the Inspired challenge garment photos are due. I realize that most people don't receive their copy on that date, though. I'll talk to the folks in charge and see what they say...maybe next year we'll adjust the issues to make it more realistic. Meanwhile, I hope there's enough inspiration in the 5 issues that will have arrived by the deadline to get you going.
On another note: apparently on the cover wrap announcing the challenge, with the entry form, it says to send a "photo or slide" in the singular. That was an error that we asked to have corrected, but it didn't get fixed. Please note that we welcome entries with more than one photo. Since the initial judging is done from photos, it's advantageous for you to send enough pictures (and clear ones) for us to get a good idea of what the garment looks like, including full-length and detail shots if appropriate.
The American Sewing Expo has published a very useful online article on photographing garments for competition. Take a look at that (http://www.americansewingexpo.com/news.asp#item2) for guidelines if you don't have experience shooting pictures of garments.
We're looking forward to this year's challenge, and hope that you'll all consider entering.
Carol
