Introduction

Hello one and all.  I thought I should introduce myself….as I am a newbie.  I live in northern wisconsin, but am originally from Calif.  I have been sewing professionally since the 80’s and am currently doing pattern and sample work for D.C. Comics and dressmaking for clients.  I also teach at our local communty college in their continuing education division.  I am seeking comradarie for an art form I love, inspiration for myself and students, and information.  I primarily work out of my home studio with the exception of teaching along with my husband a sculptor for fine art and product development.  So needless to say the winters are long, dark and dreary here and in an attempt to ignore all of that, I have set the “paying” work aside for the day in order to make myself a spring dress.  I love vintage details and am making up a Folkwear pattern called Glamour Girl.  I also thought I would treat myself to some time with other stitchers.  I look forward to getting to know you all, let me know if you would like some pictures of past and current projects.

Welcome. Of course, we always love photos of work done or in progress. Your spring dress sounds lovely - how about some pics of that?

It must be a shock to be in Wisconsin after living in California. My brother lived in Fond du Lac for 5 years, having grown up and spent most of his adult life in Florida. The darkness of the winters was the hardest part for him to adjust to.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!  I really need to get some paying work done today, but will try to post some pictures this evening of the glamour dress.  My husband thinks I should make some lounging pants from this fabric.....intriguing idea as I do have yardage left over having purchased the fabric during a sale.

The weather is horrible here, your first winter is kind of charming but then when it is not over in February...march....april.....its hard to take.  Many people here love the cold and are miserable in the summer when it may reach 80, for me I am just beginning to thaw out.  But one must focus on the positives which for me is the cost of living which affords me a large basement studio to work out of.  Thank goodness for the internet though as the closest full service fabric store is 5 hrs away!

Well I suppose I really should get to work

    Hi Lynne,

Wonderful to have you here!  You're gonna love the people here.  We ask lots of questions, help when we can, and have a few giggles along the way. It is addictive.  When I'm home, I check several times a day for new postings, and have to come here at least once a day.  I love vintage clothing, too, and am lucky enough to have a client who brings me her 'finds' to repair or alter to fit her.

We LOVE pix! So please send as many as you like! Especially of works in progress...we all learn lots that way.

    Enjoy!!!

    Deb

Welcome, Lynne, not only to Gatherings, but also to winter in the Great Lakes part of the country!  You find Gatherings to be a place of inspiration and information, as well as a favorite hangout for some incredibly talented lovers of fiber.  Looking forward to seeing your projects.
