Introduction and Buying a New Machine

Hi everyone:
I’m new to Gatherings and am a new quilter. I have been doing other crafts (including crochet and soapmaking) for years and am excited to get going with quilting. I have decided to buy my own machine and have found a dealer in the neighborhood who offers a good service package and has other good supplies in the store and seems very helpful in terms of providing me with explanations of the machine. She is recommending the Janome 423s as a good strong machine for a first time owner and for quilting. Does anyone have any feedback on this machine? I’ve only been able to find descriptions and not review on the ‘net. Also, I would like some tips on how to “test drive” the machine. What should I do in the store to try it out?
Thanks,
Marie

My neice hasthat machine nd it seems fine I have Janome 4800 and its excellent. You might want more stitches though if you get into crazy quilting etc.I would try it on thickness and on fine fabric . Keep in mind that the type of needle you are using is important. Alos the ease oif doing the buttonhole is important
You might want to search this site for an article they had posted a year or two ago with reviews of different machines and tips on test-driving.
Good luck,
Jay
