Iron Troubles

amapola | Posted in General Discussion on

I was ironing some Pellon to the back of a fabric. In the process the iron became dirty with color from the fabric. I tried taking it off with a soft cloth and soap but there is still some that refuses to come off. This has happened before on another iron and it still has some dirt in it that won’t come out. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Amapola

Dritz makes an iron cleaner.  There's at least one other major brand.  You squeeze some of the paste onto a clean cloth and then move the warm iron on it, repeating until clean.  Once in a while I get sloppy and get a chunk of iron-on interfacing fried to my iron.  These cleaners work on it and I imagine they would solve your problem.

Bo-Nash makes a product called Iron Clean, which looks like fabric softener sheets. To use it you put a sheet of Iron Clean on a paper towel on the edge of your irioning board, then wipe the base of the hot iron over the sheet until the residue is removed. Wipe the base of the iron on clean paper towel. Works great on all stuff that's stuck to the iron. I prefer this to the paste as it doesn't get into the steam holes, and the odor is more pleasant.

Thank you, I'm going to try this one. Amapola
