Issey Miyake’s retirement:Is the sky …

K.Kelly | Posted in The Archives on

I heard today that, Issey Miyake, a designer who’s designs are beloved by many, is finally retiring and turning over designing to his assistant. He will now concentrate on textile design. Is it the end of an era? Let me know what you think…

Hi, is it Issey Miyake or Kenzo who is retiring?

*Kenzo is definitely retiring. It was reported on CNN Style's web page. I don't know for sure about Miyake, haven't heard anything.

*Don't know about Kenzo, but IM is definitely retiring. I went into a decline for hours on Thursday. DH thought I was crazy! He is irreplaceable. I wonder if he knows how many sewing fans he has? Maybe now that's he's retiring, Vogue will re-issue some of his older patterns. Wouldn't that be a nice surprise?!

*I received a message from Vogue's customer service. They will NOT re-issue IM's patterns.

*When did you hear this? It is my understanding that the reissuing project is underway.

*Diane, just recently. Actually, I had lost a bid on ebay on an IM pattern and thought I could get a copy of the pattern somewhere out of their archives. No way, they said, and we also should not believe the rumours on re-issuing. They actually told me that the only way I could get an expired pattern was either from ebay or some other second hand source. Amen. LOL.Drop them a few lines and see what they say, they reply promptly and are VERY nice.

*Well, that should explain why after telling me they were trying to reissue the patterns ( and I have the emails to prove it/ I guess Vogue speaketh with a forked tongue!) I haven't heard from them for quite a while. Well ladies, I guess this means it is time to have copying parties and the like.I and a few other ladies have been exchanging pattern copies with a great deal of success. So, don't despair pattern copies are out there.
