Janome or Babylock?

livelybaby | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

Hi all!  I’m Cori and I’m new to this forum.  I’m looking at buying either the Janome Compulock or the Babylock Evolve and I’d love your opinions.  What are the pros/cons of each?  Help me decide!  Thanks so much.

Hi!  I have an evolve and I love it!  It does just about everything I could ever want a serger to do and then some!  It even threads itself, quite the time saver as my old serger used to twenty minutes to thread the lower looper.  The only cons I can think of is that it isn't a pretty looking machine, in fact my mother thinks its scary!  It's also a little loud, it doesn't purr like a kitten, but roars like a sewing tiger!  I have had mine for over a year and can't imagine using any othe serger.  I design and make garments for small boutiques, usually in the Goth Style, and I can sew some garment completely on the evolve.  I also sew for myself and my family and have made everything from jeans to negligees; denim to silk on it.

Hi there, I bought the Evolve as my first serger primarily because the other machines seemed too complicated and scary.   I knew I wouldn't use a serger if I had to get out the threading chart every time I wanted to use the machine!  So, I can't speak for the other machines but I LOVE the Evolve.  I've used it for almost every project over the last year and gave it a workout over the Christmas holiday (17 pairs of PJ's and 2 fleece robes).  I've had absolutely no problems and if I ran into a hitch (not the machine, me) I was able to find the answer pretty easily with the material provided.  Good Luck with your purchase!!
