Keeping Long stretches from bunching
I was so glad to stumble onto this site last week, referred from a friend at a decorating site. What invaluable information.
I have a problem and I hope someone can help.
I am having a heck of a time on a valance I am making for a gal. It’s a very long panel (over 200″)to be gathered on a rod with clips…simple, right?

Someone will surely ask you "What kind of fabric?" Is the 200" up and down or side to side? I wonder if an iron-on reinforcement on the hem part would keep it firm enough to keep it from sliding. You'll get lots of suggestions! rjf
thanks rif. Sorry to not add, the fabric is decorator weight cotton blend. Sewing side to side. I think I will try the iron on. Sure would love to hear any tricks that help any decorative sewers.
There is a heat sensitive thread that you can wind on the bobbin and use regular thread on top. Don't know the name of the product, but if you machine baste along your stitching line with this stuff first and then iron so it sticks in place, you can top stitch without it shifting. It's worth a try. Make sure you test on some similar fabric first though.
I found it at Clothilde's. http://www.clotilde.com/cl/product_group.asp?listtype=search&searchterm=fusible+thread&go.x=11&go.y=7&dept_name=Search+Result%3A+fusible+thread&g_id=236519
