Knitting machines — Ashley Paige style

pegyreads | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

I’ve been watching the reruns of the show “Bikini or Bust” and wondered what type of knitting machine is used to produce those beautiful suits. Does anyone have any idea?

Though I'm unfamiliar with >> ... "Bikini or Bust" ... <<, my insight to RTW is it being very difficult, and near impossible to duplicate, the fabrics, knits or whatevers.

Also, industrial equipment varies greatly to what is in the domestic market.

But then again, you may get some info from another member.

    Hello

I know nothing of the show but she has put out a book of knitting patterns

Knitted fabrics for mass production of garments are generally made on industrial knitting machines, which can produce extremely fine fabrics, and not on domestic ones.

There are reruns on this website. There are shots of her knitter, Juan, sitting at the machine in episode 1 and most of the others. They make the suits right there in her storefront.

Very interesting! Thanks for the link. I saw Juan in Episode 1 - looks like a Studio or Brother machine, using punchards. All I can tell you is that it is not a Passap machine.

Knitting machine sales are in decline; several manufacturers are out of business. If you are interested in buying a machine, Ebay's a good place. Make sure you get an instruction manual with your purchase - very important.

        Good luck - Katina

Oh, hey my bad.  I just realized that the link is to episode 3. Thanks for your reply. I'll check into all 3 brands that you mentioned.

Are there others? And is the machine you saw in episode 1 in the category of home machine?

I recommend watching the other episodes. One shows a suit halfway done and still on the machine. Juan explains that knitting the suit is all math.

Should I get a used machine, I'll be sure to get some instructions as Ashley Paige herself forgot how to use the knitting machine since Juan had been doing it for so long!

            Hello again

Yes, that's definitely a home knitting machine, and yes, there are other brands of machine. A used machine is certainly a good way to get started. There are knitting machine groups and websites, etc. Google should get you all kinds of info.

            Good luck!
