Large Bust Alteration

Ree_Duda | Posted in Fitting on

Help. I can’t seem to fully understand the slash & spread method of altering a pattern for a large bust. I know to alter 1/2″ for every cup size after B. But I have trouble when you spread the slash and the pattern lengthens. Anyone have any easy explanation or a good book?..Thanks

The pattern is supposed to lengthen in the center front. For a large bust, you need length as well as width. That keeps the front from riding up. The extra length will be taken up in the dart at the side seam. Tauton Press has a good book out on fitting, also Gail Griggs Hazen and Patty Palmer.
