How rude, I never introduced myself. I’ve been sewing forever, it seems like. I started when I was 14 on a mechanical White that I kept for 23 more years! I taught myself to sew during a high-school obsession with Vogue designer evening dresses, learning about boning, Hong Kong seam finishes, hand-tacked lining, silk organza interlining–what fun!
Last Christmas my darling husband gave me a new Bernina 163 (he said he was tired of hearing me curse at my old machine). The thrill of a one-step buttonhole is finally mine! He also bought me my first serger, a Bernette 234, 15 years ago. This year I got a new one for Christmas!
I sew mostly clothing for him, our daughter and myself. Lots of home-dec as well. Lately I’ve been branching out–the Bernina has me doing all kinds of fun things. For a while I taught sewing classes, and I miss doing that.
My sewing room is in a tiny closet–that’s the only way I can keep the machines set up all the time. I’ve sewn nearly every day over the past year. I also knit, and subscribed to Threads last year. In my day job I’m a writer.
