LETTUCE EDGE

snshine | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Hello, does anyone know how to make a lettuce edge hem like they have on the new tops on the stores?

If you are working on a knit, just stretch the edge as you zigzap it.  Practice first!

The more you strtch the more lettuce you have . Using the rolled hemmer on your serger is particularly good.

Use the serger and one with differential feed and a rolled edge on knits and stretch it as you go. Make sure that the differential is set for stretching not gathering.

Sometimes the amount of curl you get depends on which side of the fabric is serged. You can also get a nice lettuce edge for flounces and yards of ruffles on bias cut fabric by serging over fishline.
